COVID-19

Dear members,

All Debit Success payments will restart from Friday 15/05/2020 unless you had existing suspension in place prior to the lockdown/gym closure. Also please let us know if your bank account details or payment cards changed to avoid dishonor fees.
Memberships that have been paid in advance will be reactivated from Friday as well.

Please contact us if you need to extend your suspension or if your situation has changed.

WHAT ARE WE DOING TO KEEP YOU SAFE?
Please take your time to read all the points!
We have put in place extensive processes and protocols to ensure your safety and are following the guidelines set by ExerciseNZ, Sport New Zealand, and Worksafe:

  • Gym attendees limit: 10 members at a time: For the first few days of reopening we will observe what the attendant numbers are and look at busy times, then we will review whether we need to put a workout booking system in place to allow for your attendance to go as smooth as possible
  • Class number limits
LEAOD studio: 10 people max, except for Zumba: 7 people max
    Spin classes: 6 people max
  • Physical distancing of 1-2 meters
  • 30 min between each class
  • Contact tracing – Strict swipe card policy: We need everyone to use their swipe cards at all times. We need to be able to track who has been to the gym, in case of an outbreak. No walkins in classes. You must book in advance!
We record all our suppliers, couriers etc
  • Frequent equipment cleaning from our staff
  • Enhanced deep cleaning regime at the end of each day. We also use ZOONO products on our surfaces: zoono.co.nz
When applied to a surface by spraying, wiping, or ‘fogging’; Zoono leaves behind a mono-molecular layer that permanently bonds to the surface. These molecules are antimicrobial, silane-based polymers that covalently bond to the surface forming a barrier of positively charged microscopic pins. The positively charged microscopic pins attract and pierce negatively charged pathogens. The pins rupture the cell walls. This causes the pathogen to break up with a lethal effect. The layer of molecular antimicrobial pins carries on working for up to 30 days on surfaces. Routine cleaning can continue and does not disrupt the Zoono molecule or its antimicrobial activity.
  • Fans: With COVID-19 known to sit on surfaces and transfer through the air we are being extra cautious and taking precautionary steps to minimize its potential spread, therefore our fans won’t be on, but we will keep the door and windows open for better airflow.
  • Water drinking station is available for bottle refills only, must wipe after use
  • Saunas, changing room area and showers will be closed: you can still use the toilet and bathroom sink, but please make sure it’s only one person in the bathroom at a time. These areas will be cleaned regularly
Please come ready in your workout clothes and bring only the necessary items to the gym: towel, water bottle, ….
  • Mandatory towels: NO TOWEL = NO WORKOUT
  • Most of the small equipment and attachments have been put away, no small equipment in classes, you must bring your own yoga mats. Only steps and weights for pump class and Sport will be available
  • Our staff will be wearing face masks, and we ask our members to do the same. Along with frequent hand washing and social distancing, masks can be effective.
We ask our members to use masks at all times during gym visits and class attendance for extra protection as it can be challenging to keep two meters distance at all times (that’s when masks are not necessary).
You will be given disposable mask at the entry
We are following the recommendations by Exercise NZ since we are in a very specific industry and need to be more cautious than the general public.
    Q. Why is REPs advocating for the use of face masks when the government doesn’t require masks to be worn by everyone in a workplace?
A:The governments regulations and guidelines are general for    everyone. REPs registered professionals interactions between an exercise professional and client can be close and prolonged. While the government provides overview information around the use of masks, We need to manage the unique and specific risks for our industry and the interactions with the public.  Delivering exercise can often have a higher respiration rate.
  • We ask that every member takes responsibility for personal hygiene and also respects the space of others. That means washing / sanitising hands, covering coughs and sneezes (wearing a mask), wiping the equipment and machines after each use, keeping 1-2m from the nearest person, bringing your own towel and using it, and bringing your own filled drink bottle / yoga mat  and not sharing or touching anything that you don’t have to.
  • We ask all members to stay home if you feel sick/have any of the following symptoms:eg fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, sneezing/runny nose or loss of sense of smell), if  awaiting the results from being tested for COVID-19, if You have been in contact with any known or suspected cases of COVID-19 in the past 14 days, if You have returned, or been in contact with anyone else who has returned, from overseas in the past 14 days
  • We are currently not accepting any new members to assure space for our long term members

IN SHORT, THE NEW CONDITIONS OF ENTRY ARE:

  • Stay home if unwell
  • Arrive ready in your workout gear with minimum belongings
  • Sanitise your hands upon your arrival
  • Scan your swipe card every time you enter the gym / ALWAYS make sure to book for a class
  • Bring and use a towel every time you work out
  • Wear face mask at all times
  • Wipe down equipment before and after use
  • Keep your distance from others

Please be patient, the protocol will be changing frequently based on our observations and as new recommendations come in!

23/03/2020 – update 2:30 pm

OUR GYM is closed from now
STAY HOME STAY SAFE

We have sent an email earlier, literally, minutes before the latest government announcement.

The Government has asked all non essential businesses to close as NZ attempts to curb the spread of Covid – 19 virus.

Effective immediately, Waiheke Workout is closed for at least the next 4 weeks.
We will be providing updates if and when anything changes.

We have made further changes in response to the Covid – 19 pandemic. We will continue to trade in the interim but this could change at any time. If we need to close, all membership payments will be suspended automatically and concession cards will be honoured.
The government has advised all those who are over 70 years old
to stay at home. This is the vulnerable group in our community because your immune systems are not as resilient as they used to be. I would advise all over 70s to place their memberships on hold and exercise at home or outdoors. Go for a walk, maybe some gentle stretching or do some gardening.
We are looking at ways to livestream some group classes to those who would be interested.
We already had a go at it this morning :) – suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Stronger for longer classes have been cancelled until further notice.

Government also advised for following categories to stay at home:
People with existing medical conditions, People undergoing a treatment for cancer and blood conditions, Pregnant women (Health experts do not yet know if pregnant women are impacted by COVID-19 in the same way as other people. However, pregnant women experience changes in their bodies that may increase their risk from some infections)
If you come to the gym you will need to bring a LARGE towel with you. This is to be placed on all workout surfaces before you sit or lie down. (bench, machines, swiss ball, carpet… everywhere). Ensure you wipe down all surfaces with antiseptic wipes when finishing your exercise.
NO TOWEL, NO WORKOUT.
When in the gym be very aware of distance between yourself and others. 1.5 metre gaps are recommended.
Equipment that is difficult to clean has been put away.
No new memberships or casual access will be allowed from today. This is primarily to separate our members from any new arrivals to the island.

From today we won’t be accepting any cash payments. Eftpos/Credit Card or bank transfer where needed.

Please be responsible, look after yourself and be there for others.
Now it’s the time where we need to get united.

If you are already staying at home, pair up with a friend, neighbour or another gym member and keep each other accountable. Set mini goals, go for a walk, do your workout and let your friend know you did it and ask if they have completed theirs.

Make sure you reach out if you don’t have any close family or friends on the island

19/03/2020 Group Fitness Adjustments

Here is another email that is important for our Group Fitness attendees
As you would have seen in our previous email, from now

  • Group Fitness classes at the dance studio will be restricted to 10 class members

  • Spin classes will be restricted to 6 members (alternate bikes to be used)

  • We have decided to stop Aquafit classes a week earlier due to the weather and current COVID-19 situation and removed Spin Express class on Wednesday due to very low numbers. Our Morning Mat Pilates with Macarena has been changed to Mondays at 8 am.

  • You might see cover classes or one-off cancelations in case instructor is sick or if the numbers are low, this is to protect each other. We will sort our cover for specific class or replace with different type of class where possible. We suggest for you to keep an eye on the booking system and our social media where you can see the most current situation.

  • Please book for a class and cancel immediately once you know you are unable to attend to make sure others can take your spot
(please send me email at [email protected] if you need further assistance setting up your online booking or come and see us at the gym after or before a class and we will teach you how to use the app. This will make it much easier for me in terms of admin. But if you find it hard to navigate, please contact me at the email address or text me at 022 386 0571 and I will book you in) booking is essential to avoid disappointment of not being able to attend

  • We have a new function for the online booking which is a waitlist, if the class is showing full capacity, add yourself to the waitlist and if a member cancels you will automatically get your spot and a confirmation email

Thank you very much for your understanding and support, let us know if you have any concerns or suggestions, we are trying to take the right steps so we can still operate without too many restrictions

Have a great evening
Denisa

Quick update on our gym wipes from our supplier
The wipes are effective on surfaces – eg the gym equipment and is the best thing you can do in this regard. High alcohol contact (605 and higher) is recommended for hand sanitiser to sanitise hands, but the surfaces are different. Our wipes kill 99% of germs and bacteria.

We have a hand sanitiser available at the reception and we will provide one for our studio as well. Always a good idea to carry your own one with you at all times :)

Dear members

We are sure you have received many emails related to the current COVID-19 situation but please read this in detail so you know how to keep yourself and others at lower risk in the gym environment.

The COVID-19 situation continues to develop in New Zealand, and we are aware that this is an uncertain period which is concerning too many in our community.

The high standard of cleanliness and hygiene has always been important but right now this is receiving our utmost attention.
We have teamed up with LEAOD and make sure our both organisations follow the right protocols.
The cleaners at WAIHEKE WORKOUT and LEAOD have been instructed to increase all sanitisation of surfaces and cleaners are now cleaning the studio more frequently.

Current research suggests the virus is not spread through sweat
Coronavirus spreads person-to-person via respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. These droplets land on surfaces, and the disease is spread when a person touches an infected surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.
WHO and CDC recommend taking common precautions to prevent respiratory illness, including:

  • Covering coughing or sneezing with a tissue or elbow (not your hand)

  • Regular hand washing with soap (for at least 20 seconds) or alcohol-based solution (at least 60% alcohol)

  • Avoiding touching of eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

TEAM work is very important in this case. We require our members to:

  • Stay home if feeling unwell (or If you have returned from overseas in the last 14 days or have been in contact with someone who has and is required to self-isolate), please contact us if unsure and we can put your membership on hold

  • Use the hand sanitizer we have available at the reception (we have ordered a new one which will keep your hands sanitised for 24 hours – zoono.co.nz)

  • Use decent-size towel on machine and mats at all times (We suggest you use different towel to wipe your face off).
Please bring a towel to use on mats, yoga bolsters and other equipment in classes!

  • Wipe other parts of the machines and all equipment and mats after you are finished with the anti-bacterial wipes provided

  • bring your own yoga mat to the group fitness classes

  • wipe all your equipment after a class (spin bikes, steps, yoga blocks, pump bars etc – please use the wipes that are in the Waiheke Workout storage as the other wipes in the hall are for LEAOD students)

Healthy ways to strengthen your immune system

Following general good-health guidelines is the single best step you can take toward naturally keeping your immune system strong and healthy. Every part of your body, including your immune system, functions better when protected from environmental assaults and bolstered by healthy-living strategies such as these:

  • Eat a whole foods diet including fruit and vegetables that are high in antioxidants

  • Get adequate sleep (approx 8 hours)

  • Try to minimize stress (try meditation or yoga)

  • Don’t smoke

  • Stay hydrated

  • Exercise regularly

  • Maintain a healthy weight

  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation

  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly

No high fives for a while! Slap the hand sanitizer instead! :)

Thank you for your support and helping us to follow our procedures. We hope you and your families are safe and hopefully things will be back to normal soon!

We will keep assesing the situation daily following the guidelines given by the government.
